Moose Belonging to the genus (A L C E S) is the largest of the deer family. In the New World it is found in the North United States, Alaska, and Canada. In the old world it is called the Elk.
The moose is a heavy bodied animal with long limbs the front been longer than the rear, its coat is brown , with lighter colored legs . It has flattened antlers that can measure 5 to 6 ft. across. The bull loose wieghs from 1000 to 1800 lbs and can measure seven a half feet high at the shoulder. A flap of skin covered with long hair called a bell hangs from the throat. A mooses diet consists of leaves, twigs, buds, and bark of some body parts, as well as lichens, aquatic plants, and some of the taller of herbaceous land plants. They are now protected in national parks and reserves in Canada and United States. |
