
Musk ox Hoofed mammal that is a herbivorous (Ovibos moschatus) living in Arctic America and Greenland. It was exterminated in Alaska around the middle of the 19th century, but was later restored their Nunivak Island. It has a oxlike body and at the shoulder stands for the five are ft. high in the bull, and they are well insulated for the harsh climate with a woolly undercoat covered by a long brown to black hair which conceals the short tail and the upper part of the short legs. The horns sit flat across the forehead , then curved down on each side then upward into a hook. When the herd is in danger , usually 20 to 30 or more animals, making a circle they face the enemy with a phalanx of death dealing horns. But this makes them an easy prey to the rifle. |
