Orangutan Anthroploid ape which is found in the swampy coastal forests of Sumatra and Borneo. It mainly travels through the forest by swinging from branch to branch in the trees. When on the ground it walks awkwardly on all fours. And the legs are short and bowed and weaker than the long arms, and the heel bone is lacking. Their hair is reddish in color and shaggy.
Adult males normally grow to an average height four and a half feet tall and weigh around a 150 lbs. Aboreal platform nests are made for sleeping. In some males cheek expansions develop and a huge, pendulous throat sack forms. The orangutan is intelligent and teachable in captivity. |
